DanceSport at the World Masters Games 2027 in Kansai, Japan

The World Masters Games 2027 will take place from 14 to 30 May 2027 across the Kansai region of Japan, providing a unique international platform for athletes aged 30 and above to compete in a wide range of disciplines. The Games place a strong emphasis on participation, lifelong engagement in sport, and the celebration of athletic endeavour at every stage of life.

DanceSport is confirmed among the sports featured at the Games, with competitions scheduled for 29 and 30 May 2027 in Wakayama Prefecture, at the Martial Arts and Sports Center Wakayama Big Wave. This inclusion reflects the global recognition of DanceSport and its continued appeal among master athletes. Participants will have the opportunity to compete within an international community, share experiences with fellow athletes, and demonstrate their skills in a structured competitive setting.

The World Masters Games adopt an inclusive approach, welcoming athletes with varying levels of experience. All competitors aged 30 and above are eligible to participate, with no upper age limit. The Games are open to athletes regardless of professional status, and participants do not need to officially represent their country to enter, making the event accessible to a broad spectrum of dancers.

While detailed schedules and regulations for DanceSport will be published closer to the opening of registrations, the confirmed dates and venue already provide dancers with a concrete framework to plan their participation and preparation.

Participation in the Games also highlights the social and cultural dimensions of DanceSport. Athletes are able to connect with peers from different countries, exchange experiences, and enjoy the shared spirit of sport beyond competition alone. By engaging with the World Masters Games, athletes contribute to the visibility of DanceSport on an international stage and help to promote its values as a lifelong activity. Shawn Tay, WDSF President, commented:

“The inclusion of DanceSport at the World Masters Games 2027 is an exciting opportunity to showcase the sport’s accessibility, inclusivity, and lifelong appeal. We look forward to seeing master athletes from around the world come together to compete, share their passion, and celebrate the spirit of DanceSport.”

The registration process for the Games is expected to open in spring 2026. WDSF will continue to monitor developments closely and provide guidance to athletes and national federations as additional information becomes available, supporting athletes in their preparation and engagement with this international event.
