Leipzig Awaits: The Last Dance of Marius-Andrei Balan and Khrystyna Moshenska
A date is set to be remembered. A historic moment is about to unfold in DanceSport: the final championship appearance of Marius-Andrei Balan and Khrystyna Moshenska. After more than a decade at the pinnacle of Latin DanceSport, the legendary couple will take to the floor one last time — closing an extraordinary chapter that has inspired generations of dancers and fans around the world. Anticipation is already building across the DanceSport community, as athletes, coaches, and spectators eagerly await the chance to witness their final performance together the next 18th October in Leipzig, Germany, at the 2025 WDSF World Championship PD Latin, they will also celebrate a partnership that has shaped the very essence of Latin DanceSport and the timeless beauty of this art form.
This duo´s remarkable career began in 2015 in Pforzheim, Germany, quickly establishing them as one of the most successful and captivating couples in the world. Since then, they have achieved numerous top placements in the most prestigious international competitions, among them four World Championship titles, with victories in 2021 in Pforzheim, 2022 in Muelheim an der Ruhr, 2023 in Sibiu or 2024 in Wuxi; European Championship wins like in 2021 in Cagliari or 2019 in Warsaw; and their triumph at the IWGA World Games with their 1st place earlier this year in Chengdu— a long-awaited and deeply emotional achievement that crowned nearly a decade of dedication. Beyond the championships, they have consistently dominated the prestigious WDSF GrandSlam Series with 9 wins and achieved multiple World Open series wins across multiple countries, crowning a journey that continues to inspire dancers around the world.
Just one day after announcing their retirement at the WDSF German Open Championship in Stuttgart, we had the privilege of sitting down with Marius and Khrystyna for an emotional and intimate interview. In this heartfelt conversation, they shared the whirlwind of emotions they experienced during their last show, reflecting on the journey that brought them to this moment — a mix of gratitude, disbelief, and the quiet awareness that an era was coming to an end. They also spoke about the deeply emotional moment when their coach and mentor, Franco Formica, a three-time World Champion who has guided them throughout their career, stepped onto the floor to embrace them after their bow. For them, it felt like the closing of a perfect circle — especially knowing that Franco himself won his last World Latin Championship in Leipzig on October 2004, the very same city where they will now dance their final competition. And, of course, they also spoke about the legacy they leave behind — a testament to their discipline, elegance, and unwavering love for the art of dance.
While the full interview will be released in video very soon, we are delighted to give fans a first glimpse through a special teaser video. This video captures Marius and Khrystyna in the hours leading up to their performance at the Beethovensaalon 22nd August in Stuttgart at GOC 2025, where the audience stood in applause and shared tears with this beloved duo.
Looking ahead, the duo plans to continue dancing professionally, remain active as teachers, and perhaps even become judges in the future.
Their upcoming performance in Leipzig will not only mark the end of a remarkable competitive journey but also the beginning of a new chapter — one in which their experience, artistry, and spirit will continue to inspire the next generation of dancers.
