Happy International Dance Day from the World DanceSport Federation
On International Dance Day, we celebrate something deeply human. Before it had names or structure, dance was already part of us.
Since the earliest days of humanity, movement has accompanied life, in celebration, remembrance, and in the simple need to come together. Across cultures and generations, it has remained one of the most essential ways people connect. That thread continues today in academies, competitions, homes, and communities around the world.
The World DanceSport Federation works with this living tradition. Alongside athletes, coaches, officials, support teams and families, DanceSport demands extraordinary physical preparation, control and musical understanding, while allowing space for individuality and expression.
What defines DanceSport is movement as a form of communication, telling stories without words and reaching people beyond explanation.
WDSF President Shawn Tay shared a message to the DanceSport community on this celebration:
“Dance connects people in a very simple way, you don’t need to explain it, you just feel it. It’s something that speaks before words. I want to thank everyone in our community, for keeping that spirit alive. Wishing you all a very happy day.”
On this International Dance Day, the World DanceSport Federation pays tribute to all those who dedicate their life to dance. You keep this tradition alive. You give it meaning today, and you carry it forward into the future.
From all of us at the World DanceSport Federation, Happy International Dance Day 2026.
