Uzbekistan Open Cup 2025 Brings International DanceSport to Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan, 1 – 2 November – Over the first weekend of November the Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi (TUIT) Sport Hall hosted the landmark first edition of the Uzbekistan Open Cup 2025, the first ever WDSF international DanceSport event in the country.

Over 390 athletes from 13 countries competed, drawing around 1,000 spectators and distinguished guests, including representatives of the Uzbekistan DanceSport Federation and international adjudicators.

Vision and Future Goals

The Local Organizing Committee expressed its ambition to continue hosting more WDSF events, offering athletes from the region opportunities to grow and compete at the highest level without leaving Central Asia. This weekend, they added, marked the beginning of a new chapter for DanceSport in the region, built on the strong partnership and continuous support of the WDSF.

As Shawn Tay, WDSF President, noted:

"Watching Uzbekistan take this bold step into the international DanceSport arena is a reminder that the heart of our sport is not just in the steps we dance, but in the communities we build. Every new country hosting an event expands the conversation, the culture, and the spirit of DanceSport itself."
