Step, Spin, Shine: Highlights from Mülheim and Burgas 2025

Across Europe, the weekend of 13 – 14 December 2025 brought together the energy, passion, and talent of young and elite dancers at two remarkable events: the final Winter Dance Festival in Mülheim and the 2025 Burgas Trophy. Both competitions showcased the sport’s vibrancy, the dedication of organisers, and the spirit of international DanceSport.

Mülheim Hosts the Final Winter Dance Festival at Westenergie Sporthalle

Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany – 13–14 December 2025. The prestigious Westenergie Sporthalle welcomed 1,001 athletes from 10 countries, alongside approximately 1,000 spectators over two exciting days of competition.

The weekend began with a warm welcome from Ms Alexandra Hanf, 2nd Mayor of Mülheim, who expressed her delight that so many enthusiastic young dancers had gathered in the city. Also in attendance were representatives of the state sports association and the German DanceSport Federation (DTV), highlighting the strong local support for the event.

This edition marked the last Winter Dance Festival in Mülheim, with future tournaments moving to Wuppertal from 2027. The event featured comprehensive coverage on social media, providing fans with extensive insights into the competition and celebrating the energy of the dancers.

The tournament featured a wide range of categories across the two competition days, bringing together young talents from across Europe. Award ceremonies and podium moments reflected the high level of competition, with athletes demonstrating skill, precision, and creativity throughout the event.

Burgas Hosts the WDSF European Youth Standard Championship

Burgas, Bulgaria – 13 December 2025. The Sport’s Hall of Fame “Arena Burgas” welcomed 53 couples from 32 countries for the European Youth Standard Championship, alongside 240 entries in WDSF Open categories. Approximately 2,500 spectators enjoyed a weekend filled with high-level performances and international camaraderie.

Distinguished Guests and Statements

The WDSF European Youth Standard Championship in Burgas was honoured by the presence of several distinguished guests, reflecting the strong support for DanceSport in the region. Mr Dimitar Nikolov, Mayor of Burgas, remarked:

“It is a great honor to welcome the 2025 WDSF European Youth Standard Championship to our city. Burgas is now a stage of elegance, grace, and sportsmanship, giving young athletes a platform worthy of their dreams.”

His words underscored the city’s commitment to providing an inspiring environment for young dancers and highlighted Burgas as a rising hub for international DanceSport events.

Echoing the global importance of the event, Shawn Tay, WDSF President, stated:

“The presence of athletes from 32 countries highlights the importance of Burgas on the international DanceSport map and the passion driving our community.”

His remarks highlighted the international dimension of the championship and the role of Burgas in strengthening connections across the DanceSport community.

This second edition of the Burgas World Trophy, combined with the inaugural European Youth Standard Championship, reinforced the city’s presence as a host of prestigious international events and strengthened partnerships between the Bulgarian DanceSport Federation, the Municipality of Burgas, and WDSF.

From the historic halls of Mülheim to the vibrant stage in Burgas, the weekend underscored DanceSport’s capacity to unite athletes, spectators, and federations in celebration of artistry, athleticism, and community.
