Meet The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games Athletes: B-Boy Holy Rain on Shaping Breaking’s Olympic Destiny from Dakar 2026 to Brisbane 2032
At 16 years old, Shengyu Cui, known competitively as B-Boy Holy Rain, holds the top spot in the WDSF Youth World Ranking. As the athlete explains, his nickname is a close translation of the original meaning of his Chinese name, giving international fans a clear connection to his roots as he competes across the global circuit.
Following a decisive victory at the 2026 WDSF Youth World Championship on home soil in Chengdu, the young breaker has established himself as one of the standout talents of his generation. Looking ahead, his focus is firmly set on the upcoming Youth Olympic Games in Dakar and the broader future of the sport.
COMPOSURE IN CHENGDU
Handling the pressure of a major international final in front of a home crowd can be challenging. However, for Holy Rain, the atmosphere during the 2026 WDSF Youth World Championship brought more encouragement than tension.
“During the WDSF World Championships Youth in Chengdu I felt very good. I achieved the result I wanted to achieve and also felt everyone’s support,” he reflects. “This feeling of support made me happy and allowed me to feel very relaxed.”
That sense of comfort allows him to approach every Battle with clear focus and genuine enthusiasm once he steps onto the floor.
“When I step into the cypher, I feel a sense of excitement and a desire to showcase myself to everyone.”
THE NEW GENERATION OF CHINESE BREAKING
The recent success of Chinese breakers on the world stage reflects a strong collective movement within the national crew. Holy Rain sees his progression as part of a shared journey alongside his teammates, learning from those who came just before him while aiming to push the level even further.
“Chinese B-Boys and B-Girls are continuously making progress and allowing the world to see us. From X-Rain to Royal, and down to us, every generation is following in the footsteps of our seniors, and all of us want to surpass them to achieve even better results.”
This connection to his peers shapes his approach to Battles, where he aims to combine technical power moves with strong musicality and direct responses.
“I believe my signature is the combination of certain special power moves with the music, as well as my responses to my opponents.”
LOOKING TO DAKAR AND BRISBANE 2032
With preparations underway for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, Holy Rain is looking forward to the broader experience of the event. Having taken part in the World Breaking DanceSport Festival in Brisbane earlier this year and supporting the campaign for breaking’s Olympic return #BreakingForBrisbane2032 he views international events as a chance to connect with breakers worldwide and build momentum towards the 2032 Olympics.
“I hope to exchange ideas, learn, and make progress together with friends from all over the world, showing everyone Breaking in preparation for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.”
Away from competition, his training routine is guided by different styles of music depending on his focus for the day:
“I generally use music with very strong drum beats to practice. When working on moves, I use music with more of a Hip-Hop vibe. Normally, I use some slow Chinese songs to adjust my mindset.”
And once the event concludes, Holy Rain enjoys keeping things simple and spending time with friends.
“After competitions, I look for friends to practice and exchange ideas with, go for walks together, play video games together and do some sport.”
