Meet The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games Athletes: Becoming Your Dream, The Story of B-Girl Melkez

17-year-old, Melina Laura Fernández Sánchez (B-Girl Melkez), among the top 30 athletes in the WDSF Youth Breaking global ranking will be representing Germany in the upcoming Youth Olympic Games in less than two weeks.

On October 15, 2026, the official WDSF announcement of allocated athletes for Breaking at Dakar 2026 had her name on it, marking one of the most special achievements in Melina’s career. “The first thing I thought was, ‘Wow, I actually did it!’ I was really happy, and I still am”, she said.

Before receiving the news, preparation had been pivotal for Melina. She prioritizes training and nutrition, and beyond that, the mental preparation plays an important role in her day-to-day. Her family and support system are an important part of this mental preparation: “I try to train with my coach as often as possible…. And talk a lot with my family to prepare myself mentally,” Melkez shared.

A Message for the B-Girls

B-Girl Melkez, being a major figure in the Breaking scene, but also in female Breaking, describes her style as “technical, power moves and clean”; and, in portraying her uniqueness, one of her main goals in this Youth Olympics is to “show that girls can do whatever they want to and that you can achieve anything if you truly believe in your goals and work for them”, she said.

Melkez, today is the inspiration of many young Breakers and B-Girls, and being conscious of this, she wants to empower as many Breakers in the community as possible. As she puts it in different words, the sky is the limit, and believing in what you do is the first step of success.

To The Coming Generations

Continuing with her message, when Melina was asked about advice she would have for other Young Breakers in the scene, she said: “Don’t just dream about your goals, go for them.”

In an invitation to once again believe in yourself, B-Girl Melkez emphasizes to “never let anyone bring you down or tell you that you can’t do it”.

Believing in oneself and being determined to achieve her dream is what took Melina to represent her country in the Youth Olympic Games at only the age of 17, and this same empowerment is the one she wishes for every B-Boy and B-Girl in the next generation.

“Live your dream!” – B-Girl Melkez.
