WDSF Strengthens Breaking Education Pathways Through Educational Programmes
The World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) continues to strengthen the global development of Breaking through the practical implementation of its Three Breaking Training Guides, a comprehensive educational framework designed to support the discipline from grassroots introduction to elite international performance.
Delivered on 19 and 20 January, the two-day educational programme marked an important milestone in WDSF’s commitment to education, transparency and long-term athlete development pathways. The initiative provided structured, accessible and culturally respectful learning opportunities for the Australian Breaking community, reflecting Breaking’s dual identity as both a cultural movement and a recognised sport within the Olympic Movement.
Practical Implementation
The programme was delivered across two different venues, Elements Collective and Mad Dance House, with each day consisting of six hours of intensive training and education. Attendance grew from 11 participants on the first day to 16 participants on the second, highlighting the engagement from the local community.
The educational content covered all three levels of the WDSF Breaking Training Guides and combined theoretical learning with practical application.
Day 1: Foundations, Culture and Style Development
The first day focused on the foundations of Breaking, including its history, cultural roots and the development of the discipline over time. Particular emphasis was placed on understanding how to build personal style from strong fundamentals, respecting both the cultural origins and the technical base of Breaking.
Professional athletes BenMX and J Attack joined the programme on the first day, contributing to practical sessions and sharing their experience at the highest competitive level.
Participants also took part in guided one-on-one training sessions with Max Oliveira and Katsu One, receiving personalised feedback tailored to their individual strengths, areas for improvement and development goals.
Day 2: Training, Competition and Performance Pathways
The second day expanded into training structure, competition preparation and performance strategy. Professional athletes Anti, Alessandrina, and members from the Chinese Taipei Breaking community were present, further enriching the learning environment through international perspectives and elite-level insight.
Key educational topics included:
- A detailed explanation of the five judging criteria
- Introduction to the BRRM, competition formats and judging processes within DanceSport
- Technical and strategic guidance on preparing for competitions
- The importance of regulations, athlete conduct and clean competition
These sessions provided clarity on how Breaking is evaluated in official sport contexts and offered practical tools for athletes aiming to compete within WDSF-sanctioned events.
Strengthening Community and Ongoing Development
A key outcome of the programme was the connection established between the Australian Breaking community and the National Member Body (NMB), supporting continued development beyond the educational event itself. This alignment ensures that participants can continue progressing within a structured system that is consistent with international standards.
A Shared Vision for Sustainable Growth
Through the successful delivery of this educational programme, WDSF reaffirmed its commitment to:
- Accessible and structured education
- Transparent and consistent competition systems
- Athlete-centred development pathways
- Respect for Breaking’s cultural identity
- Sustainable growth within the Olympic Movement
The programme also formed part of the broader educational and competitive ecosystem showcased at the World Breaking DanceSport Festival Brisbane 2026, reinforcing WDSF’s long-term vision of linking grassroots education with elite performance and global opportunity.
