The banks of the Douro River witnessed an unforgettable display of raw energy and urban culture as the historic Centro de Congressos Alfândega do Porto hosted the WDSF Breaking for Gold (BfG) International Series Youth (1vs1) on Thursday, 27 August.

Organized through the dynamic partnership between Max Oliveira’s MxM Art Center and the WDSF’s Breaking for Gold division, the event took center stage as a flagship feature of the iconic urban culture festival, The World Battle.

A Heritage Stage: Tradition Meets Innovation

Transforming a 19th-century customs house into an international arena perfectly embodied the evolution of Breaking itself. As Max Oliveira noted in the lead-up to the event, bringing elite modern sports performance into a heritage setting does not compromise the roots of Breaking, it elevates them.

The electric atmosphere inside the Alfândega do Porto provided the ultimate backdrop for young athletes to showcase their technical mastery and artistic expression, proving once again why Porto has become a true global capital for Youth Breaking following the success of last year's World Youth Championships. The event was also honored by the presence of WDSF General Secretary Sergey Nifontov.

WDSF BfG International Series Breaking 1 vs 1 B-Boys Youth

The B-Boy competition delivered an historic sweep, with China securing all top five positions in an extraordinary display of depth and technical dominance. B-Boy Holy Rain (Cui Shengyu) captured the gold medal with a remarkably consistent performance that stood out for his explosive power moves, re-establishing his supremacy in the exact same venue where he was crowned World Champion at the WDSF World Youth Championship 2025. Following a dominant run where he swept all judges' votes across three rounds in the semi-finals, Holy Rain highlighted how much he enjoys competing in Portugal, noting that the vibrant atmosphere and familiarity he feels in Porto helped him feel comfortable and confident on the dance floor. B-Boy Jason (Li Houhua) put on a breathtaking run through the bracket to claim silver, proving he will be one of Holy Rain’s fiercest competitors for the world title in China. Completing the podium sweep, B-Boy TJR (Tong Jierong) secured the bronze, adding another prestigious international accolade to his resume after his silver-medal routine at the 2025 World Championships in Matosinhos.

WDSF BfG International Series Breaking 1 vs 1 B-Girls Youth

In the B-Girl category, Japan’s Mirei Kishimoto (B-Girl Mirei) produced a pristine execution and consistent performance to earn her very first WDSF top-spot victory, halting China's total sweep at the top of the podium. Mirei arrived in Porto with victory in mind throughout the competition and expressed her appreciation to the organizers for their support. Marking a special milestone in her career, Mirei celebrated the emotional triumph alongside her coach, Katsu One. Following a strong silver-medal performance in the Mix-Team event in Brisbane earlier this year, Mirei navigated a tough field in Porto to secure the gold. China’s B-Girl Yoyo (He Xin) earned a well-deserved silver medal after displaying remarkable consistency, keeping her sights firmly set on capturing her first career gold at the upcoming World Championships. Joining them on the podium, B-Girl c-change (Hu Xichen) claimed the bronze medal, marking her second consecutive podium finish on Portuguese soil after taking home the silver at last year’s World Championships.

Battle Highlights & Technical Showcases

Beyond the final podium places, the knockout bracket produced high-voltage matchups and individual technical milestones that left a lasting impression on the audience. Ukraine's B-Girl Nikastar emerged as one of the true standouts of the event, with her electrifying Top 8 battle against Zitian of China lifting the energy inside the venue. On the B-Boys side, the Top 8 showdown between young Chinese breakers Lingo and Guanka delivered incredible rounds of high-level power moves.

The top 8 encounter between B-Boy Lei and TJR stood out as one of the night’s most dramatic clashes. At just 16 years old, B-Boy Lei drew immense admiration as the official world record holder for one-hand airflares with 11 consecutive repetitions, showcasing an extraordinary level of power talent. Meanwhile, the Battle between B-boy Gera and Yizhu offered a striking contrast of movement concepts.

A special recognition was also given to the coaches guiding these young athletes. Their commitment to developing the next generation of breakers, alongside the tactical guidance and support provided throughout the tournament, was an essential foundation of the event.

Senegal’s Road to Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics: Spotlight on the Host Nation

With Senegal set to host the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026 this coming November, the host nation holds guaranteed quota spots for the Olympic Breaking competition. To test their skills against international top-tier talent before final delegation allocation, Senegalese athletes B-Boy Mame Mor, B-Boy Papis, and B-Girl Suzz took to the floor at the Alfândega do Porto.

The delegation was led by Gacirah Diagne, President of the Senegalese DanceSport Federation, alongside Papa Abdoulaye Faye, General Secretary of the Federation and representatives from the Senegalese Ministry of Sports.

Reflecting on the atmosphere and the development of her young squad, Gacirah Diagne shared:

"It is a very good atmosphere and a great discovery for our young athletes to experience this competition. We learned a lot today, it allows us to continuously improve our level. We are very happy to come to Portugal to represent Senegal."

The Path Ahead: From Porto to Chengdu and Dakar

While all eyes are fixed on the historic Youth Olympic Games in Dakar this November, the immediate stop for the world's elite youth talent will be Chengdu, China, on 12–13 September 2026.

The WDSF World Youth Championships will see Holy Rain, Mirei, and the global Breaking elite battle for the ultimate crown of World Champions. Porto has set the bar high, proving that the next generation of B-Boys and B-Girls is ready to redefine the boundaries of the sport.
