Four Cities, One Stage: WDSF Highlights from Fethiye, Bologna, Wroclaw and Veenendaal

The second weekend of April turned four European venues into meeting points for WDSF competition, as events in Fethiye, Bologna, Wroclaw and Veenendaal brought together athletes across generations and disciplines. From seaside Latin rhythms in Türkiye to packed Standard line-ups in the Netherlands, the weekend offered a clear snapshot of the sport’s current momentum: expanding calendars, growing participation, and an international community that continues to move forward, one floor at a time.

Haston Cup 2026 in Wroclaw

Wroclaw, Poland, 11–12 April 2026. The Haston Cup returned once again to the elegant surroundings of the Haston City Hotel, reaffirming its position as one of Poland’s most recognised WDSF events. Built over nearly 13 years of dedication and vision, the competition continues to grow thanks to the passion and commitment of its organisers, who have transformed their original idea into a meeting point for athletes and DanceSport enthusiasts from across Europe.

This year’s edition was held under the Honorary Patronage of the Mayor of the Municipality of Długołęka and the Head of Wrocław County, reflecting the increasing recognition of DanceSport within regional institutions. The event was further honoured by the presence of distinguished guests, including County Councillor Beata Błońska and Didier Guisy, Honorary Consul of France, alongside sponsors and local authorities.

The 2026 programme stood out for its diversity, welcoming dancers from the youngest Juvenile categories through to Junior, Youth, Adult and Senior divisions. Particularly notable was the strong presence of Solo competitions, reflecting the growing popularity of this format and the opportunities it provides for individual athletes. Across the weekend, participants competed in eleven WDSF competitions, complemented by a wide range of additional class categories.

The competition was evaluated by an experienced international panel of adjudicators representing Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Czechia, Estonia, Ukraine, Romania, Italy, Portugal, Lithuania, and Poland, ensuring a high standard of judging throughout the event.

Over the course of the weekend, Haston Cup brought together 647 participants from 14 countries, while the venue welcomed approximately 1,200 spectators, whose enthusiasm helped create an atmosphere that matched the scale and ambition of the event.

Veenendaal – Let’s Dance Championships

Veenendaal, Netherlands, 11 April 2026. The competition took place at De Basiliek in Veenendaal, marking the 8th edition of the event and the first time incorporating WDSF competitions.

The event featured Senior III and Senior IV Standard categories, with a total of 92 couples (184 athletes) from 6 countries: Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Lithuania.

Approximately 1,000 guests, including dancers and spectators, attended the event. The competition was officiated by 10 adjudicators from 6 different nations, with 9 judging the WDSF categories.

The organisers expressed their satisfaction with a highly successful edition and confirmed their ambition to further expand WDSF participation in future years.

WDSF Zaya Open Championship in Fethiye

Fethiye, Türkiye – 11–12 April 2026. The WDSF Zaya Open Championship took place at the stunning Liberty Hotels Lykia, bringing together athletes from Türkiye and Italy in a vibrant and welcoming competitive environment.

The organizer continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to dancers, with the level of competition steadily increasing year after year. Participation across Junior and Youth categories is also showing significant growth, reflecting the expanding interest in DanceSport within the region.

A total of 91 solo participants, 12 couples, and 20 teams took part in the event, with 98 athletes representing 2 countries. The atmosphere combined sport, entertainment, and community spirit in a dynamic seaside setting.

Emilia International Dance Festival in Bologna

Bologna (Budrio), Italy – 10–11 April 2026. The Emilia International Dance Festival, organised by Danza Lerose and FIDESM in collaboration with WDSF, took place at the “Luciano Mariani” Sports Hall, bringing together around 700 athletes from approximately 20 countries.

The event confirmed its position as an important stop on the European DanceSport calendar, offering a broad programme across multiple age groups and disciplines. The presence of federal authorities from the Federazione Italiana DanzaSportiva e Sport Musicali further highlighted the institutional importance of the event.

Across Europe, One Shared Stage

From Türkiye to Western Europe, the weekend highlighted the continued expansion of DanceSport across all levels. Rising participation in youth and solo categories demonstrates the sport’s increasing global reach and sustainability.

Across all four events, athletes, organisers, and federations contributed to a weekend defined by passion, performance, and international collaboration. Reflecting on the weekend, WDSF President Shawn Tay commented:

“DanceSport continues to grow because it inspires people in every generation. Seeing events across Europe thrive in such different settings is a strong sign of the sport’s future.”
