A Question of Coherence

Judging System 2.1

Looking at last night's results of the Super GrandPrix Stuttgart, we draw two conclusions. The competition was tight between the two top-ranked couples. And just how tight it was, we will never get to find out.

Judging System 2.1 was used in the WDSF PD Super GrandPrix Stuttgart for the past two years. For the edition in 2016, the Professional Division opted to revert back to the traditional Skating System. Whatever the reasons for doing so, the decision leaves the dancers without feedback and the general public without insights that both have grown accustomed to after System 2.1's consistent use with the "Amateurs."

It's mostly a matter of coherence, but Professionals competing under wholly different rules that are not state-of-the-art, and under rules that change at frequent intervals, does not help to develop the Super GrandPrix events into a Series like the one contested by the "Amateurs." IMHO.

In terms of the time allocated for a final, the one last night was hardly shorter than those of a GrandSlam with three solos.
