The GrandSlam partnership between SWAROVSKI - the leading producer of precision-cut crystal for fashion, jewellery and home décor - and the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) goes into its fourth year. In fact, the global partnership was announced on 4 March 2015 and first implemented at the inaugural leg of that year's Series in Helsinki, FIN.
Three years later, SWAROVSKI crystals continue to bring sparkle to costumes and jewelry across the entire world of dance, and the WDSF GrandSlam has further consolidated its position as the leading competition series in DanceSport. But as with all good partnerships, it is important to periodically update some of the criteria that apply and to review the way it is communicated to the world. This process has just been completed and the new "look and feel" of the partnership gets rolled out here in Helsinki! "ALL EYES ON YOU" continues to be the theme - but with the new SWAROVSKI SHIMMER EFFECT added!
DanceSport, with its lightning-fast Latin, smooth-flowing Standard and dynamic ShowDance, captures the imagination not only because of the beauty and grace of the movements, but also its performance-enhancing costumes.
Crystals from SWAROVSKI play a vital role, catching and throwing light reflections around the dance floor, following the sinuous movements of the body, and creating a sense of spectacle. A costume may take as little as a couple of hours to make, but the crystal application can take up to ten times longer to achieve the body-outlining effect required by dancers to enable judges and audience to fully appreciate the choreography and its execution.
