The World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) today is pleased to announce new measures for its Breaking Division designed to give a stronger voice to Breakers while respecting the culture of the scene in the lead-up to the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
The WDSF has added a number of leading names in the Breaking community to its Breaking Division, which is responsible for the vision, direction and overall organisation of the Olympic project.
They include Aslan (RUS), Bojin (TPE), Max (POR), Moy (USA), and Skim (KOR). More names are set to follow.
“The need for people within the Breaking community to be solidly represented in the Olympic project, from qualifiers all the way through to Paris 2024, is absolutely essential,” said b-boy Max. “I am stoked to get started and to work with a great team of Breakers that the WDSF is assembling. Together we will make sure that all WDSF Breaking events will be world-class, authentic and something everyone will want to be part of.”
The initiative comes just weeks after the historic decision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to include Breaking on the sports programme for the Olympic Games Paris 2024. The measures are also meant to increase collaboration between the WDSF, National Member Bodies and b-boys and b-girls.
“This is a positive new development in the Breaking world in that it will give a greater voice to b-boys and b-girls around the world in the direction and supervision of Breaking, while also strengthening the relationships between them and their NMBs,” said WDSF President Shawn Tay. “For Paris 2024 to be a success it will take a real team effort, and the WDSF wants to be as inclusive as possible in the lead-up to and planning of the Games.”
With global interest in Breaking increasing and many organisations involved with Breaking competitions, the WDSF felt it was necessary to ensure that the interests of our breakers and NMBs remain the number one priority during preparations for Breaking’s Olympic debut and for the future of Breaking as an Olympic sport.
