Detlef Hegemann, 1927 - 2011 24/08/2011

Detlef Hegemann, WDSF Honorary President

The Death of a DanceSport Legend – Detlef Hegemann

On behalf of the World DanceSport Federation, (formerly IDSF), we express our profound sadness at the passing of a greatly respected and inspirational President of IDSF and leader of DanceSport worldwide.

For over thirty years, Detlef Hegemann was a powerful influence for the continuing development and growth of DanceSport worldwide and in supporting IDSF’s entry into the Olympic family.

Amongst many prestigious awards and distinctions, Detlef Hegemann was recognised for his outstanding services to DanceSport by being appointed the inaugural Honorary Life President of IDSF.

There are few words which can truly or adequately express our grief and sorrow in receiving this news.  Although Mr Hegemann has passed away, we believe that his spirit will live on and we will continue to honour his memory in the decades to come.

We offer our sincerest condolences to his wife, and I know that we are all thinking of her at this very difficult time.
