On this occasion, the Chinese DanceSport Federation was able to report on a nationwide base of 30 million people practising the sport regularly, and on more than 50 million considering themselves "enthusiastic supporters" of DanceSport.
With plenty of sporting infrastructure available in post-2008 Beijing, this community can be counted on to put halls and gymnasiums to regular use. If athletes from abroad are added for international events, these venues turn into veritable "greenhouses" where local talents can be nurtured through a sporting exchange of know-how and through contests. As a consequence, DanceSport in China develops even further over the years to come.
The Beijing International DanceSport Open is such an event. It will - through 2017 - feature some of the premier WDSF contests (GrandSlam Standard and Latin). It was big in 2011, it is even bigger in its second edition, and it should continue to get bigger still.
