China | Out In Force

Beijing, CHN | 7 September © Roland When round one started about two hours ago, 74 Chinese couples made for the largest national contingent at this GrandSlam Latin.

Many of them have spent all year training for the occasion to compete here, for the opportunity to match up against all the big names they read about on websites.

And DanceSport in China is not only getting bigger, it is also getting better. Some Chinese couples are starting to catch up with the best in Europe and have taken the lead in Asia. In the DanceSport events at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China took the gold in all contests. And this year, at the Asian Indoor Games in Incheon, KOR, China was the uncontested number one of 32 nations in DanceSport once more.

It may not be this year yet, but in the not too distant future we will get to see the first Chinese couples in a GrandSlam final too.
