Chinese Taipei hosts the second leg of the 2019 WDSF GrandSlam Series during the first weekend of June. GrandSlam Latin on Saturday and GrandSlam Standard on Sunday have attracted most of the top couples of the world to Taipei City to contest for the GrandSlam ranking points and to amaze the spectators at Taipei Gymnasium.

The 2019 GrandSlam Series, which kicked-off in Bucharest eleven weeks ago, demonstrated the high-quality DanceSport at its best. Evaldas Sodeika – Ieva Zukauskaite (LTU) won their first ever GrandSlam in Standard and Armen Tsaturyan – Svetlana Gudyno (RUS) continued where they left off after the Shanghai final by winning Latin. Both couples won the European Championship titles in May.

So far, there are 63 couples on the unofficial starting list for the GrandSlam Latin on Saturday. Timur Imametdinov – Nina Bezzubova (GER) and Charles-Guillaume Schmitt – Elena Salikhova (FRA) seem to be missing this leg of the Series. There are many new names on the starting list, representing countries we have rarely seen participating these events. For example there are 14 couples representing Chinese Taipei! What a wonderful opportunity and experience for these home ground heroes to share the dance floor with - and to be one of the top Latin couples of the world.

On Sunday, there are 66 couples on the unofficial starting list for the GrandSlam Standard. Qiu Yuming – Wei Liying (CHN) (in photo), the reigning Asian-Pacific Champions will meet the European Champions and their runners-up, and Alexey Glukhov – Anastasia Glazunova (RUS), who were not at the Europeans but ranked fourth in Bucharest. Of the top of the top, it seems like we are missing Vaidotas Lacitis – Veronika Golodneva (LTU).

It will be another fantastic weekend with Swarovski shine! Flodance will stream the GrandSlams on both days starting from the quarterfinals. The preliminary schedule has the starting time for Saturday at 16:54 local time (10:54 CET) and for Sunday at 16:39 local time (10:39 CET). We will update the schedule in more detail later.

And, that is not all of the beginning of June: there is a World title event in Szombathely (HUN), as the 2019 World Championship Senior I Ten Dance takes place on Saturday. 39 couples representing 20 countries have registered, including the reigning World Champions, Simon Sorin Dumitru – Constantinescu Florentina (ROU). There are also WDSF International Open events in Bremen (GER) and Burgas (BUL), and WDSF Open events in Wroclaw (POL), Alytus (LTU) and Daugavpils (LAT). We will report of these events later on.
