A Sunny Day In Aarhus 20/04/2013

It's a sunny day in Aarhus! But many of these couples will get to spend the next 12 hours indoors. After they go through accreditation at the NRGi Arena, they get ready for the 2013 European Standard by . Observe: the Athlete's ID Card is in use here too.

Warm-Up The final countdown to the first round of the 2013 European Standard is on. The couples are on the floor and warming up. Round number one is all but 45 minutes away. The first pre-event clips should become available soon.

1500 Likes And Counting 20/04/2013

Sport Aarhus Events DanceSport seems to be a little bit about procrastination too. Sport Aarhus Events had asked the European Standard participants to contribute to the event's facebook page by submitting their "A day with ..." reports. That was over two months ago. Well, at between 96 to 24 hours out, many of the couples actually did send photos and videos.

Similarly, the DanceSport community was invited to give the event's facebook page the thumb up, with the declared goal of reaching 1500 likes ... Sport Aarhus Events just hit that magic mark - at one hour prior to the start of the first round. "Just in time," that would be one way of describing it. Procrastination is another!

Ko de Mooy RIP 20/04/2013

The Singapore Anti-Doping Testing team It is with great sadness that the World DanceSport Federation must inform you of the passing of the Anti-Doping Commission Chairman, Mr Ko de Mooy. Ko had started to serve WDSF in this capacity soon after the commission was formally instated and led the fight against doping in DanceSport until his death on 19 April.

The WDSF Presidium conveys its condolences to Ko's family and all of his friends.

After learning of Ko's passing yesterday, Presidium Member Jim Fraser wrote the following to his fellow members.

This is terribly sad news.

Ko gave a terrific service to WDSF.

He approached me in Lausanne in 2001, when I was the first Anti-Doping Commission Chair, he agreed to my request that he use his considerable knowledge of Anti-Doping to serve as my technical adviser, and then he agreed to take the very heavy responsibility of acting as Chair a year later.

Even when he was very sick, in pain and thinking about his death, he still wanted to help WDSF and work for DanceSport.

He was energetic, ethical, clear-thinking, always knowledgeable, and always friendly and cheerful, a terrific colleague.

I will miss him very much.

Anton Skuratov - Alona Uehlin, GER © Roland Here is the schedule for tomorrow's European Latin. Form the early rounds, the WDSF Communications team will produce clips of the individual dances and upload them to the YouTube channel DanceSport Total and here at regular intervals.

As soon as it is known which of the later rounds of the championship will get produced by the host broadcaster dk4, we provide this information here and announce a firm schedule for the live webcasts that will become available here and on DanceSport Total. Stay tuned! For the viewers in Denmark it will be the actual live stream only, the recordings will get blocked afterwards until after dk4 has aired its programme on 27 April.

There were two last-minute cancellations (Guiseppe Massimilla - Elisabet Bjarnadottir, ISL, and Radu Sterban - Xenia Cletova, MDA). Let's Get Serious! 19/04/2013

Aarhus Weeks and even months of preparations come to an end for the couples dancing in tomorrow's 2013 WDSF European DanceSport Championship Standard in Aarhus. While some are there already, others are still travelling to what is - without any doubt - Denmark's DanceSport capital.

A facebook crowd! The facebook page that is dedicated to the event has registered its highest activity over the past few days, with many more couples submitting their "A day with ..." reports, and with traffic to the page on a steady increase too. It is, however, still 50 likes short of the declared target (1,500).

The picture on the right was posted there last night. After some of the couples put in their last training session at a local studio.

dk4 Danish broadcaster dk4 will produce the international signal of the 2013 European Standard in Aarhus. As on a number of occasions in the past, we can again expect a top-notch production with innovative camera angles on all the action in the NRGi Arena.

From the feed that dk4 produces with seven cameras, the WDSF Communications team makes the personalised live stream that will go out to you on YouTube.

Provided that enough bandwidth is provided locally, the stream will be available in HD quality for the first time ever. YouTube Partner channels such as DanceSport Total have now the opportunity to upgrade their streams to a 720 setting, with the bitrate ajusted automatically to a lower setting for those viewers who do not have fast enough Internet access.
