2011 WDSF Grand Slam Chengdu, CHN 03/07/2011

WDSF President Freitag

World DanceSport President Carlos Freitag had travelled to Chengdu, China, to be present for the first edition of the International DanceSport Festival held there from 1 to 3 July. Unfortunately, his flight was delayed and he missed the opening ceremony on the first evening.

In an interview with the Sichuan News Network, President Freitag spoke of the latest developments within DanceSport's world governing body, explaining the rationale for the recent change of name and commenting on developments such as the sport's Olympic quest. He also commended the organisers of the Chengdu International DanceSport Festival and pledged full WDSF support for further editions in the upcoming years.

"I understand that Chengdu is a virtual hotbed for DanceSport, and with over 30 millions keen on dancing and competing in China, we need  such a strong partner."

Two Grand Slam events were the highlight of the three-day festival this year. 46 and 47 couples entered the Standard and Latin competitions respectively. The results are published here. For the next five years, the plan is to award two Grand Slam events to the Chinese DanceSport Federation and Chengdu for them to perpetuate the festival.
