Sochi to host WDSF European Breaking Championships in June 06/05/2021

The WDSF European Breaking Championships will take place in Sochi, Russia this 26-27 June, with total prize money of USD 57,000 up for grabs.

Battles in three categories – b-girls 1vs1, b-boys 1vs1 and crews 5vs5 – will be held at the Bolshoi Sports Palace inside the Olympic Park, home of the Olympic Winter Games Sochi 2014.

The Championships will be open to all 50 WDSF National Member Bodies (NMBs) in Europe, many of which have already organised national selection tournaments to qualify their breakers for the continental competition. Each European NMB can nominate up to 2 b-girls, 2 b-boys and 1 crew of five dancers to take part in the Championships. Interested b-boys and b-girls are encouraged to contact their NMBs directly for more information.

Judges include Katsu (Japan), Focus (Finland), Skim (South Korea), Admir (Belgium), and Jan (Russia), with DJs Smirnoff (Russia) and Nobunaga (Netherlands) providing the beats. MCing the event will be Scream (Russia) and Amjad (Switzerland).

“This will be an excellent test for European b-boys and b-girls with only three years to go until the Paris 2024 Olympic Games,” said b-boy Focus. “It will be a great mix of styles with breakers coming from upwards of 50 countries. And they will have to bring their A game because the Russians have been working hard at getting their breakers in peak condition. The talent will be off the charts.”

The event will be held in accordance with the WDSF Operating Policy on COVID-19 to ensure the safety of all participants. Among other measures, all participants will be required to pass a PCR-test no later than 72 hours before travelling to the Russian Federation.

The WDSF European Breaking Championships will be organized in conjunction with the All Russian Federation of DanceSport and Acrobatic Rock’n’Roll (FDSARR).

“We recently held our national breaking championships in Moscow with over 1,000 b-boys and b-girls taking part,” said Nadezhda Erastova, President of the FDSARR. “So we are confident that the European Championships will be equally as successful and safe. We look forward to welcoming the best breakers from across Europe this June!”
