Okay, we went quite a long time without posting any news, photos or videos on this "Live from Helsinki" blog. We had some minor technical issues, but they only affected the addition of the 40 or so videos of the first two rounds to the gallery here. They are on YouTube since last night. For the rest, it was simply the fact that all members of the WDSF Communications team were overwhelmed by the events here at the Messukeskus Expo. What a privilege it was to produce the semi-final and final of the 2016 GrandSlam Standard Helsinki together with the host broadcaster YLE. 9 cameras with oustanding operators - one of them shooting the action with a Steadicam while standing on a Segway - an expert crew working in the OB truck ... Add to all of this 12 inspired couples dancing in the decisive stages of this GrandSlam and you end up with a winning formula.
Speaking of winning: Dmitry Zharkov and Olga Kulikova recorded their third successive win in big-time competition last night. In the post-event interview they seemed as overhwelmed as ever by their emotions. "One cannot get enough of it!" That is what Olga said before the two posed for the photo call.
