The Precedent

1957 Cañaveralejo Not that it would be the first time that dancers get to perform in the Cañaveralejo bullring. The World Salsa Festival and even an International Ballet Festival have long become regular fixtures to be held there.

The picture on the left was also taken at Cañaveralejo. It is a slightly faded classic announcing the corridas of the inaugural bullfighting season back in 1957.

The arena serves for bullfights only during the months of December and January, during the Fiestas de Cali. Some of the best Toreros fight here every year. Quite a few of them are brought to Cali from Spain, after the fighting comes to a halt there over the winter.

The picture below shows the ring with a stage for the International Ballet Festival.
